CPM leader gets fresh parole, 2nd in 3 weeks
Kannur: CPM leader V K Nishad, who was convicted for hurling bomb at a police vehicle at Payyannur in Kannur, has been released on parole from Kannur Central prison. This is the second parole granted to him in three weeks. The fresh parole was granted citing medical treatment of his father. After the central jail authority rejected his request for the parole, he approached the high court, which granted him parole for one week. Earlier, the jail authority had released him on parole for one month just after he served the jail term for one month. The decision had triggered a controversy.

Nishad, who was the LDF candidate in the Vellur-Mottamal division of Payyannur municipality, was convicted by the additional sessions court, Thaliparamba on the eve of local body polls. Despite the conviction, CPM did not stop campaign for Nishad and he won from the CPM stronghold.
