Police say woman recorded 7 videos of Deepak inside bus
Kozhikode: Police submitted a remand report in Kunnamangalam court in connection with the death of Govindapuram native U Deepak and said the woman from Vadakara, who was arrested on Wednesday on suicide abetment charges, had recorded seven videos featuring him in an unacceptable manner. Days ago, she had posted a video on social media alleging sexual harassment by Deepak during a private bus ride. The report stated that Deepak took his life amid severe mental distress and defamation over the uploading of the visuals on social media and fear that viewers would portray him as a sexual pervert. Police also noted in the report that an examination of CCTV footage from the private bus, in which the videos were allegedly recorded, showed Deepak and the woman boarding the bus and that nothing unusual occurred during the journey.CCTV visuals showed them alighting from the bus in a normal manner. The report also added that the bus crew gave a statement that they had not noticed any sexual harassment bid inside the bus and that the man and the woman had alighted from the bus without problems.Police said that the woman's mobile phone must be examined forensically in a detailed manner and that it will recover her deleted Instagram and Facebook accounts.
The police team is yet to record the statements of other passengers who travelled with them on the bus named Al Ameen. The remand report said that the woman, who is highly educated – a postgraduate and a former member of Areekode panchayat – was aware that circulating such videos could cause mental trauma and drive a person to commit suicide. The remand report also highlighted that the woman, who claimed to have had a bad experience inside the bus, did not lodge a complaint at Vadakara or Payyannur police stations. The woman had filmed Deepak, a sales executive with a textile firm, during a bus journey last Friday and later shared the video on social media, alleging that he touched her inappropriately during the ride at Payyannur in Kannur. The video went viral, garnering over two million views within two days.Deepak's mother K Kanyaka filed a complaint to the district police chief saying that her son died due to mental trauma after the woman raised false allegations. Soon after, the woman went into hiding when the police tried to contact her to record her statement. Later, police arrested her from the house of a relative on Wednesday.
