Kozhikode: A 22-year-old college student was seriously injured after stones were pelted at the Executive Express (train No 16307) while it was passing between Kadalundi bridge and Feroke on Monday night.
The victim, Aishwarya Ramakrishnan, was travelling in a general compartment and seated by the window when the incident occurred around 9.50pm. The stone struck her in the face, breaking three teeth, causing a jaw fracture and injuries to her lip.
She was immediately taken to a private hospital where she is undergoing treatment. Her mother said doctors have advised surgery.
Aishwarya, a degree student at Union Christian College, Aluva, was returning home on study leave ahead of her examinations scheduled to begin on April 17. She was to alight at Vadakara station.
Kozhikode railway police have registered a case under sections 118(1), 327(1) and 329(3) of BNS, along with Section 152 of the Indian Railways Act, which pertains to acts such as throwing stones at trains and endangering passenger safety.
Despite conducting searches in the area, the police have not yet apprehended the accused. Notably, a similar stone-pelting incident targeting the Vande Bharat Express was reported in the same area earlier on Monday. Investigations are ongoing to determine any possible link.
