Chennai: Police registered a case of suspicious death after a four-month-old baby died at govt medical college and hospital, Omandurar.
Relatives accused doctors of administering an overdose of paracetamol on Monday. "Negligence killed the baby—a dose meant for an eight-year-old caused fatal complications," said the infant's uncle Ajith Kumar.
After the family protested, Triplicane police registered a case under Section 194 (3) (suspicious death) of BNSS Act. Postmortem was done on Tuesday, results are awaited, police said.
Medical superintendent Dr Thiruvengadam said the infant was referred from a private hospital with pneumonia on March 27. "Despite intensive care, the baby did not recover," he added. TNN
