Child injured after fingers get trapped in escalator at Delhi's Mandi House Metro Station

NEW DELHI: A four-year-old child sustained injuries after his fingers got trapped in an escalator at Mandi House Metro Station on Monday.According to police, the incident occurred when a woman was descending from the concourse level to the platform via Violet Line escalator number 4, accompanied by her nephew. During the descent, the child reportedly sat down on the moving escalator steps, following which his fingers got caught in the escalator step and skirt panel, causing injuries.Personnel from CISF and Delhi Police who were present at the station immediately rushed to assist. In coordination with the station controller, they arranged for urgent medical attention and ensured the child was shifted to Dr Ram Manohar Lohia Hospital by ambulance.DMRC officials said the child was attended to promptly and is currently undergoing treatment at the hospital. His parents have since reached the medical facility.In a statement, DMRC urged commuters to exercise caution while using escalators, especially when travelling with children. “We strongly advise passengers to hold handrails and ensure that children are supervised at all times to prevent such incidents,” a senior official said.
