1 dead, 5 others fall ill after toxic gas leak at UP's sugar mill
BAGHPAT: One died and five other employees fell ill after allegedly inhaling toxic gas that leaked at a sugar mill in Uttar Pradesh’s Baghpat district, police said on Wednesday. The deceased has been identified as 62-year-old security guard Suresh Sharma. Of the five affected employees, two identified as Hameed and Saqib were referred to a higher medical centre in Meerut due to their critical condition. The incident occurred on Tuesday evening at the waste treatment plant of the Malakpur sugar mill in the Baraut area, where a sudden leak of poisonous gas exposed several employees. According to Superintendent of Police Suraj Kumar Rai, a complaint will be taken into account and further action initiated accordingly. “The cause of the gas leak is being investigated. At present, there is no further leakage,” he said.
