Son-in-law drugs in-laws, steals gold, silver & cash worth Rs 3 cr in Bijnor, held
Bijnor: A 28-year-old man and his three accomplices were arrested on Saturday evening for allegedly drugging his wife's family members and stealing gold, silver and cash worth around Rs 3 crore in Bijnor's Nahtaur area, police said Sunday.SP Abhishek Jha said jeweller Santosh Verma, 65, had married his differently-abled daughter Swati, 26, to one Naveen Chauhan one-and-a-half years ago. Naveen had been living with his in-laws but separated from the family due to his alleged misconduct.Naveen had returned a few days ago after apologising. On Feb 25, Naveen allegedly spiked tea with intoxicants, rendering his wife and in-laws unconscious, and stole about 900 grammes of gold, 40 kg of silver and cash from the house before fleeing. The family reported the incident to police, following which a case was registered under BNS, including sections 123 (causing hurt by means of poison), 305(a) (theft), 317(2) (retaining stolen property) and 317(5) (handling items obtained via theft) against the accused.Nahtaur police, assisted by district SWAT and surveillance teams, arrested Naveen and his three accomplices-- Kunal Chauhan, Shivam Chauhan and jeweller Shivam Saini. Stolen property was seized and a probe is underway to trace any remaining items.During interrogation, Naveen allegedly confessed that he and his associates planned the theft as he was dissatisfied with property transfers within the family. The accused were planning to flee to Haridwar, said police.
