Mumbai: 4 killed, 10 injured as BEST bus hits passengers in Bhandup; driver detained
MUMBAI: At least four people were killed and 10 others injured after a BEST bus hit people on the street while it was reversing near Station Road in Bhandup (West) late on Monday night.The incident was reported to the Mumbai Fire Brigade (MFB) control room at around 10.05 pm on December 29. Preliminary information suggests that the bus rammed into commuters standing behind it while being reversed. The exact cause of the accident is yet to be established.The bus driver has been taken into custody, Mumbai Police said.Emergency teams from the Mumbai Fire Brigade, police, BEST undertaking and 108 ambulance services rushed to the spot and shifted the injured to nearby hospitals.According to hospital authorities, Rajawadi Hospital declared an unidentified woman, aged around 31, brought dead. Another victim, Prashant Lad (51), was admitted in a critical condition. At MT Agarwal Hospital in Mulund, three persons were brought dead, while nine others are undergoing treatment for injuries.Police officials said further details regarding the identities of the deceased and the severity of injuries are awaited.
