Partially defunct streetlights trouble traffic on Manish Nagar road
Nagpur: The traffic-heavy stretch between Manish Nagar underpass and the starting point of Manish Nagar flyover has plunged into darkness due to partially defunct streetlights, triggering serious safety concerns among commuters. The issue is particularly alarming given the narrow width of the road and the constant flow of traffic, making navigation difficult and risky, especially after sunset.Motorists and pedestrians alike are facing severe visibility challenges. With several streetlights either non-functional or flickering, the stretch has become prone to sudden braking, near-miss incidents, and traffic slowdowns. Two-wheeler riders, in particular, are finding it difficult to gauge road conditions, increasing the chances of accidents.Residents have voiced strong dissatisfaction over the situation. "This road is already narrow and busy. Driving here at night feels unsafe because you simply can't see what's ahead," said daily commuter Nikhil Chouhan. Another resident, Bhushan Khante, added, "Without proper lighting, it becomes extremely dangerous, especially when someone comes from the wrong side and flashes headlights in our eyes."Pedestrians, too, are struggling. "We have to rely on vehicle headlights to cross the road.
It's risky, especially for elderly people and children," said Amol Choughule, a resident living nearby. Some locals also pointed out that rash driving continues even in poor lighting, further worsening the situation. The lack of proper illumination not only disrupts traffic flow but also raises broader concerns about adherence to basic road safety standards. Citizens argue that such lapses defeat the purpose of urban infrastructure upgrades and reflect poor maintenance practices. When contacted, a source from the Nagpur Municipal Corporation's electrical department acknowledged the issue and assured that immediate steps would be taken. "The faulty streetlights will be repaired at the earliest. We will also investigate the root cause behind the repeated failures to ensure a long-term solution," the official said.
