RPF nabs man smuggling liquor into Wardha via GT Express
Nagpur: The local crime branch (LCB) of Govt Railway Police (GRP) seized foreign liquor worth over Rs14,000 from a passenger travelling in the Grand Trunk Express on Friday. The accused was found with a daily pass in his possession, indicating regular travel.Acting on specific intelligence, a team led by police inspector Amol Dond intercepted the accused, Adesh Rakhe (25), a resident of Swami Vivekanand Nagar in Sewagram, Wardha, in the general coach of Delhi-Chennai GT Express after the train arrived at Sewagram station.During the checking, police recovered a large quantity of liquor from the possession of Rakhe. Sources stated Rakhe made frequent trips to Nagpur for collecting liquor. Rakhe's cell phone indicated he had a wide client base in Wardha, said a source.With Wardha being a dry district, transportation of alcohol through railway or road routes is an offence. The accused, who was travelling with a daily pass, is reportedly involved in regular smuggling activities.A case has been registered against Rakhe under Sections 65, 66(B) and 77 of the Maharashtra Prohibition Act at GRP Wardha. The operation was conducted under the guidance of Nagpur Railway SP Mangesh Shinde and ASP Dattaram Rathod.
