Nashik: Bodies of a man (28) and his two sons were recovered from the Palkhed canal here on Sunday, while the authorities are searching for the third child who is still missing.
The deceased have been identified as
Deepak Pawar (28) and his two sons -- Veer (5) and Prasad (1.5). Deepak was a daily wage worker and a resident of Nandurdi village. According to inspector Ganesh Gurav of Niphad police station, a shepherd spotted the bodies of two children that were trapped against a gate in the canal. "He raised an alarm, prompting locals to notify the cops," the officer said. "The Palkhed canal is flowing at high capacity as water is being released from the dam for agricultural and drinking purposes. The bodies were fished out from the water in the afternoon," Gurav added.
When the police went to the house of the children, they learnt that Deepak and a third child, Avinash (3), were also missing.
"Deepak fought with his wife on Sunday. Later, he told his wife that he was taking his sons for a haircut and took them with him. After that nobody saw them," the inspector said. "It is likely that Pawar threw the children and then jumped into the canal," Gurav added.
