NASHIK: With the increased availability of e-vehicles in the market, the Nashik Regional Transport Office (RTO) registered six times more e-vehicles in 2022 than the previous year.
Nashik RTO officials said that in 2021 they had registered 878 e-vehicles. While in 2022, they registered 5,490 e-vehicles.
“Going by the registration figures, electric vehicles are fast gaining popularity among people, and it is likely to grow further in the coming years,” said Deputy RTO Vasudev Bhagat.
The sale of e-vehicles has picked up due to rising fuel prices, as well as increasing awareness among people to conserve the environment.
RTO officials said that eight electric four-wheelers were registered by their office in 2020, which increased to 143 in 2021 and 423 in 2022.
Similarly, in the two-wheeler segment, the year 2020 saw only 151 e-bike registrations as against 699 in 2021 and 4,947 in 2022.
Rakesh Solanki, a Nashik Road resident, said, “In the next few years, one will find a considerable number of e-vehicles on the streets. People are purchasing e-vehicles when they see their acquaintances using the same happily. The popularity of e-vehicles is fast increasing and one can see many people riding e-scooters comfortably on the roads.”
Other motorists said if more charging points are set up in the city, more and more people will opt for these vehicles. Currently, a large number of people who are buying e-vehicles are finding them convenient and extremely cost-effective as against petrol or diesel vehicles.
The motorists further said that e-vehicles should be promoted to the extent that India does not have to import oil from other countries, which in turn, will save a huge amount of money.
Among the e-vehicles registered by the Nashik RTO, 3,586 were motorcycles and scooters, 1,361 were mopeds and 423 were motor cars.
