Namakkal district police recover lost gold chain, return it to owner
Namakkal: The Pallipalayam police on Tuesday recovered a gold chain weighing three sovereigns that a 50-year-old woman lost while returning home from a bank in their jurisdiction and returned it to her.According to a police officer, Mallika, wife of Karnan from Otta Methai area, had pledged a gold chain with a bank a few months ago to raise money for an emergency. “On Tuesday morning, she repaid the loan and reclaimed the gold chain. As she thought it was unsafe to wear the chain, Mallika put it in an envelope and kept it in her handbag.”When Mallika checked the bag upon reaching her house, the officer said, she found it was missing. “Thinking that she might have lost it on the way home, she searched for it all the way to the bank, but in vain.”Mallika lodged a complaint with the Pallipalayam police, who checked footage from the CCTV cameras on the route to her house from the bank and found a boy picking up an envelope that was lying on road. Police traced the boy, who was just 12 years old, and recovered the envelope containing the gold chain. “The boy didn’t know the envelope contained a gold chain,” the officer said.Deputy superintendent of police Gautham summoned Mallika to the station, confirmed that the gold chain belonged to her and handed the same over to her the same night.
