T'puram: Police will move a custody plea on Monday to take into custody the two brothers accused of beating a restaurant cook to death near Vizhinjam, with interrogation expected to begin on Tuesday, station house officer (SHO) Rajiraj said.
The accused Achu S Babu (24) and Ananthu S S (19), natives of Balaramapuram, were arrested within hours of the incident and remanded, but could not be questioned in detail as they were allegedly intoxicated at the time, police said.
Suman (38), of Vellayani, was killed following an argument that broke out at a bar in Mukkola around midnight on Wednesday. Police said clarity on the exact trigger for the dispute and the sequence leading to the murder is expected only after custodial interrogation.
According to police, the accused told investigators that they realized the gravity of the crime and expressed regret only after regaining consciousness the next day.
Police are also in the process of finalizing the witness list. This includes bar staff who allegedly recorded visuals of the assault on their mobile phones, which is expected to play a key role in establishing the sequence of events. TNN
