Pickpocket steals gold chain from woman in moving bus

Trichy: A pickpocket was arrested for allegedly stealing a 3.5 sovereign gold chain from an elderly woman who was travelling on a bus last week.K Sulochana, 69, and a resident of Samayapuram in Trichy district, was travelling from Allithurai bus stop to Kumaran Nagar on Feb 12 when the theft reportedly took place.Upon alighting at Kumaran Nagar, Sulochana noticed that the gold chain she had been wearing was missing. She reported the incident to the police. Police suspected that a pickpocket had snatched the chain.The General Hospital Crime Police registered a case under Section 303(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).Police questioned several witnesses and suspects before zeroing in on V Kumar, 45, a resident of Edamalaiyapatti Pudur, as the perpetrator. They took him into custody and interrogated him.During questioning, Kumar reportedly confessed to stealing the chain from Sulochana. Police recovered approximately 1.5 sovereigns of the stolen 3.5-sovereign chain from him, as he had allegedly sold off the rest.Kumar was presented before a magistrate and remanded in judicial custody.
