In Trichy, city police expect to use the funds to install high-resolution cameras at key locations, including busy junctions, markets, bus terminals and vulnerable residential areas. Special focus will be given to high-footfall zones such as shopping areas, educational institutions and transport hubs to deter offences against women.
Police officials said the expanded surveillance network would help prevent crime, enable faster emergency response and aid investigations through access to live feeds and recorded footage.
Residents welcomed the move, saying enhanced camera coverage could help curb thefts, traffic violations and other offences. Detailed rollout plans are expected to be finalised soon, with installation likely to begin in the coming months.
