VARANASI: A three-day long event will be organized by the department of culture to mark the birth anniversary of great author MunshiPremchand
on July 31. Efforts are being made to ensure maximum participation of people, especially youth, in the three-day long celebration from July 30 to August 1. The event will be inaugurated at cultural complex in Chowkaghat area and will at Lamhi, the birth place of the great writer.
A meeting was held by the district magistrate Pranjal Yadav with the officials of culture department to discus the details of the event.
At the instance of the DM, a decision has been taken to recreate the ambience of the time of Premchand by organizing a mela at Lamhi so that the visitors could get a feel of past.
Also, talks are on with the hotels to take at least 150 foreign tourists to Lamhi where, apart from participating in the celebration, they will get to taste indigenous food.
In another move to make people aware of the works of Premchand, movies based on Premchand's writing will be shown from 9-11am in multiplexes of the city on July 31 and Aug 1.
According to the in-charge, department of culture, Ratnesh Verma, the event will be inaugurated by the state culture minister, Arun Kumari Kori at the cultural complex on July 30. "We will be organising a three-day event with the help of district administration, social organisations and intellectuals of the city," said Verma.
According to the official, the event will commence with a discussion on the topic 'Relevence of Premchand in modern literature' at
Mahatma Gandhi Kashi Vidyapeeth on July 30 followed by a play based on Premchand's work, 'Godan' in evening.
On July 31, different activities including puppet show, plays based on the writings of Premchand, folk song and dance show will organized at the ancestral village of the author in in Lamhi.
Besides, to ensure an active participation of school kids and youth different shows of films based on Premchand's writing like 'Sadgati', 'Godan' and 'Shatranj ke Khiladi' will be organised. More than 100 schools will participate in the film shows.
Besides, many events like nautanki, story writing and drawing competition will also be organized to draw attention of the kids. An exhibition of Premchand's work will be organized at Lamhi for all the three days.
The event will conclude at Lamhi with cultural programmes and a folk music presentation by local artists on August 1.
The department of culture, with the help of administration, will also arrange buses to ferry people interested to visit Premchand's house in Lamhi from the city and near by areas.
