Visakhapatnam: In a significant milestone in terms of crime prevention and detection, Vizag police recovered stolen goods, including gold, cash, bikes, mobile phones, and valuables worth over Rs 1 crore in April. City police chief Shankabrata Bagchi said a total of 68 property offences were reported in Vizag city in April, out of which police solved 51 cases, arrested 60 property offenders, recovered 925 grams of gold ornaments, over 4.5 kgs of silver ornaments, Rs 3.12 lakh in cash, 12 bikes and three auto-rickshaws, and 476 (missing and stolen) mobile phones -- all worth over Rs 1 crore -- from the offenders. Police handed over the stolen items to their owners during the recovery mela on Saturday.
A total of 10,372 mobile phones (stolen and lost) worth Rs 15.56 crore were recovered in the past two years in Vizag city. Police said to prevent future crimes, they have implemented a multi-faceted approach, installed 502 CCTV cameras across the city in April, significantly enhancing surveillance capabilities. Police also conducted 190 crime awareness meetings to educate the public about criminal activities and prevention strategies. Special patrolling teams and drone-based patrolling will be intensified to prevent possible property offences during the summer holidays when people usually go out to their villages and visit tourist places.
