• The cyclone is likely to make landfall tonight between Kakinada and Machilipatnam as a severe cyclonic storm.
• Its impact is expected to intensify as it approaches the coast.
• Heavy to very heavy rainfall is likely in coastal districts, with extremely heavy rain at isolated places.

Cyclone storm Montha is moving towards the Andhra Pradesh coast, bringing heavy to extremely heavy rainfall accompanied by gusty winds across parts of coastal Andhra Pradesh (CAP) since Tuesday morning.Heavy rain in Visakhapatnam, Anakapalle, Kakinada, Tuni and other areas has caused flooding on roads, disrupted vehicular movement and prompted warnings for downstream communities.The cyclonic storm over the west-central Bay of Bengal moved north-northwestwards at a speed of 15 kmph during the past six hours. It intensified into a severe cyclonic storm on Tuesday (Oct 28) morning and was centred over the same region — about 190 km south-southeast of Machilipatnam, 270 km south-southeast of Kakinada, 340 km south-southwest of Visakhapatnam, and 550 km south-southwest of Gopalpur (Odisha).

• Andhra Pradesh chief minister N. Chandrababu Naidu on Monday directed officials to take precautionary measures in areas vulnerable to heavy rains and flooding due to Cyclone Montha, which is expected to intensify into a severe cyclonic storm by Tuesday morning.
• Prime Minister Narendra Modi spoke with CM Naidu over the phone to review the cyclone situation. Following the conversation, IT Minister Nara Lokesh was tasked with coordinating with the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) on the state’s preparedness.
• Naidu also held a review meeting with officials at the Real-Time Governance System (RTGS) centre to assess ongoing measures and ensure timely response to any emergencies arising from the cyclone.

Heavy to very heavy rains accompanied by strong gales lashed parts of Coastal Andhra Pradesh (CAP) and sections of Rayalaseema on Monday under the influence of Cyclone Montha, which is expected to bring extremely heavy rainfall and severe winds across CAP on Tuesday and Wednesday. According to satellite imagery from the India Meteorological Department (IMD), Cyclone Montha was located 480km east of Chennai, 530 km south-southeast of Kakinada, 560km south-southeast of Visakhapatnam, 720km south of Gopalpur (Odisha), and 890 km west of Port Blair on Monday.
