External Affairs Minister Dr. S. Jaishankar has strongly defended India's continued purchase of Russian oil, revealing that the United States had itself urged New Delhi to buy Russian crude in 2022 to stabilize global energy markets. Speaking in Finland, Jaishankar highlighted what he described as inconsistencies in the Western position, stating that India makes energy decisions based on affordability, availability and national interest. He also called Russia a reliable energy supplier and rejected criticism of India's independent foreign policy.
