Nagapattinam Assembly Results 2026: DMK's M.H. Jawahirullah wins

M.H. Jawahirullah of Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) won the Nagapattinam constituency with a margin of 9781 votes. He garnered 56305 votes, while Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) candidate M.Sugumar came second with 46524 votes.The AIADMK has fielded Thanga Kathiravan from Nagapattinam, setting up a contest against TVK candidate N. Sugumar, and M.H.Jawahirullah of Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam in the Tamil Nadu Assembly Elections 2026.Nagapattinam is a coastal constituency and the district headquarters. It has a strong history of supporting left-leaning and Dravidian parties.In the 2021 Assembly elections, VCK’s J. Mohamed Shanavas won the seat with 66,281 votes, defeating AIADMK’s Thanga Kathiravan, who secured 59,043 votes. The margin of victory was 7,238 votes.In the 2016 Assembly elections, AIADMK’s Thamimun Ansari (contesting under the AIADMK symbol) won the seat with 64,903 votes, defeating DMK’s J. Mohamed Shanavas, who received 44,353 votes. The margin of victory was 20,550 votes.In the 2011 Assembly elections, AIADMK’s K. A. Jayapal won the seat with 82,360 votes, defeating DMK’s Mohamed Sheikh Dawood, who secured 24,922 votes. The margin of victory was 57,438 votes.
