SAL Hospital charged with negligence
AHMEDABAD: The bad days are not yet over for SAL Hospital. First, it was the fire which broke out on its premises in May and now it’s a complaint filed against it for medical negligence.
After Priyanka Patel, 9, asphyxiated to death in a fire that broke out at Madhuram Bungalows on Sola Road on Wednesday, a member of the Patel family filed a case of medical negligence against the SAL Hospital on Friday.

Sameer Patel — cousin of Priyanka's father Sachin Patel — said Priyanka lost her life because doctors at SAL Hospital, which was closer to their home, refused to treat the four victims. They had to be later rushed to V S Hospital, which was 30 minutes away.
"All the four victims were affected by carbon monoxide fumes and did not suffer burn injuries. Yet, when we reached SAL Hospital, doctors refused to treat them saying they did not accept burn-injury cases. We requested them to at least lend us an oxygen cylinder, but they refused. Half an hour was wasted. By the time we reached V S Hospital, Priyanka had died," Sameer said.
The police have booked the hospital authorities, including the managing trustee, under CrPC section 304 (culpable homicide not amounting to murder).
