Bhopal: A 38-year-old puncture repair shop owner died after an air compressor tank exploded at his roadside shop in Satna district's Chitrakoot area late on Friday evening.
The deceased has been identified as Ram Naresh, who ran a small puncture repair shop in Rajola, near Hanuman temple under Chitrakoot police station limits. According to police, he was working since early hours and was alone at the shop when the incident occurred.
Initial information suggests that Ram Naresh forgot to switch off the air compressor pump. When he later realised it, he went to turn it off.
However, before he could do so, the compressor tank suddenly exploded, causing fatal injuries. He died on the spot. Contrary to earlier reports, no customer or motorcycle owner was present at the shop at the time of the incident, and no one else was injured.
"The incident took place late on Friday evening. Air compressor tank exploded when the mechanic who owned the shop went to switch it off. A case of unnatural death has been registered and investigations are going on," said Girija Shankar Vajpayee.
Police have begun a probe to ascertain the exact cause of the explosion, including whether there was any technical fault in the compressor or negligence in handling the equipment. tnn
