Berhampur: Police on Sunday said they were investigating the cause of severe burn injuries suffered by an Odisha motor vehicles department constable after his police-constable wife and brother-in-law allegedly set him on fire late on Friday night.
Asutosh Mrudungia (31) was rescued by policemen with nearly 80% burn injuries from the outside of the police station on Friday night before being shiftred to MKCG Medical College and Hospital here and then shifted to AIIMS Bhubaneswar.
“We have recorded the victim’s statement through the executive magistrate at the emergency ward of the medical college here. The statements of his wife, brother-in-law and some other witnesses have been
recorded. The mobile phones of the victim, his wife and brother-in-law have
been seized,” said SP (Berhampur) Saravana Vivek M.
A case was registered against Sandhy Nayak (32), working as a police constable in the police reserve office, here and her brother at Town police station here based on the complaints lodged by Nivedita Devi, brother of
the victim. Police are investigating from all angles to ascertain the exact cause of his burn injuries,” he said.
While his sister allegedly his wife and brother-in-law set him afire while he was going to his wife’s quarter. Later, his wife denied the allegation.
