One held for thrashing TV journalist in Tamil Nadu

CHENNAI: Police have arrested a man for attacking a reportercum-cameraman of a television channel while he was filming a person vandalising a tea shop at Saidapet in Chennai on Monday.
The man had come to participate in an agitation demanding the release of Rajiv Gandhi’s killers. Locals rescued ‘Mirror Now’ reporter Pramoth and nabbed Suresh Babu who was ransacking the shop.
He was handed over to police.

The video clip of the journalist being attacked went viral. Police registered a case against Suresh Babu under IPC Sections 341 (wrongful restraint), 294(b) (using obscene words), 307 (attempt to murder) and 506(ii) (criminal intimidation). He was remanded in judicial custody. A protest was staged by DMK, MDMK, DK and VCK members on Monday when some agitators entered the tea shop and demanded the owners shut it down, said an officer.
