CO2 gas tank explodes in filling station near Hosur; none hurt
Krishnagiri: A CO2 gas tank exploded at a private gas filling unit near Hosur here on Saturday morning, causing extensive damage to the facility. None were, however, injured. Police pegged the damages caused to the unit in the incident at Rs25 lakh.The incident occurred at Sri Hari Gas, a CO2 filling unit operated by V Raghu, of Agraharam, near Hosur. The unit supplies CO2 cylinders to welding shops and private firms. According to the Bagalur police, a tank containing 9,000kg of CO2 exploded when one of the workers, K Jeeva, 32, arrived to open the unit in the morning. "A portion of the tank landed in a nearby agricultural field, which is 100 metres from the unit." The building that housed the unit and equipment were damaged in the incident. Nearby electricity poles were also damaged. Jeeva, however, escaped unhurt. When alerted, the Bagalur police visited the spot and initiated a probe.
