Coimbatore: More than 900 police personnel took part in a flag march in the city on Saturday ahead of the assembly election vote counting.
The city police conducted the march as part of security preparations for the counting process on May 4 at Govt College of Technology. The exercise was aimed at reassuring the public and showing their readiness to maintain law and order.
The march was led by city police commissioner N Kannan. Deputy commissioners of police N Devanathan, G Karthikeyan, S Ashok Kumar and Raj Khanna (armed reserve police), along with other police personnel, participated in the march.
More than 900 personnel, 120 from central armed police forces, and more than 50 police vehicles were part of the march that started from Semmozhi Park near Gandhipuram and concluded at Tatabad via Nanjappa Road.
The large-scale deployment and visible police presence were intended to boost public confidence and ensure a peaceful atmosphere ahead of vote counting, an official source said.
