SILCHAR: The Joint Action Committee of the Dimaraji Movement has called a 36-hour Dimaraji bandh beginning from 5 am on Tuesday. The action committee, which is an umbrella organization of various Dimasa groups from the northeast, including surrendered militant outfit DHD (Nunisa), has called the bandh seeking creation of a separate Dimaraji state comprising the Dimasa-inhabited areas of Assam and Nagaland.
Rakesh Hasnu, publicity secretary of the action committee on Monday, said they vehemently opposed the Centre and the Assam government's proposal for granting a Dimasa Territorial Council for Dima Hasao on the lines of Bodoland in lower Assam instead of a full-fledged Dimaraji state. He said, “The government's proposal was against DHD (N)'s two-decade demand for Dimaraji.”
