JAIPUR: The crime branch of Jaipur police arrested a 39-year-old “Jewel thief” wanted for 13 years by six police stations for stealing jewellery worth over Rs 1 crore.
Aslam Hussain, a native of Muradabad in
Uttar Pradesh, was wanted for multiple cases of burglary and theft by Lal Kothi, Shastri Nagar, Bhatta Basti, Nahargarh, and Transport Nagar police stations.
“The accused was a skilled burglar who had earned a notorious distinction of being jewel thief as he barged into small jewellery shops and decamped with valuable items. He was hiding in New Delhi where he worked as a cab driver to evade suspicion,” added an official.
A special team of crime branch comprising Purshottam, Manendra Singh, Rajkumar, Rajesh, and Sardarmal intercepted the accused and handed over him to Bhatta Basti police station.
“The accused was planning another theft in the city but his plans were foiled by the crime branch. He was roaming in the city to recce for his next target,” an official told TOI.
The city police are interrogating him to find about his aides.
