Ram Narayan Shaw worked as an assistant for Manoj Sharma, a Howrah businessman. On Monday afternoon, he took Sharma's daughter Sabita (14) out for a walk with her parents' consent.

After remaining confined for eight hours, she managed to escape when Shaw went to the toilet.
Once outside, she raised an alarm. Locals prevented Shaw from escaping and took both to the police station, where he was arrested.
"Shaw may have been planning to sell the girl to a sex racket," said a police officer. Sabita returned to her parents at night.
