Kannur: Kannur police commissioner Nidhinraj P said that provisions of the SC/ST (Prevention of Atrocities) Act and provisions for abetment to suicide have been added in the case in connection with the death of Nithin Raj R L, the 23-year-old first-year BDS student of Kannur Dental College.
The names of all persons against whom allegations have been raised will be included in the list of accused. Inquest and postmortem procedures were held and the injuries were consistent with that sustained during a fall. Police said that prima facie it was indeed a case of suicide.
The commissioner added that all students will be taken in confidence and statements of those willing to cooperate will be recorded. He added that allegations of ragging would also be seriously considered. Police said that chats and calls are being verified.
He added a separate but connected FIR has been registered at cyber police station relating to a loan app. While investigating the case they found that the victim had been receiving calls from a loan app as he had taken a loan in Dec-Jan. While taking the loan, the loan app agents got hold of the number of a teacher from the same college.
At the time of default, this teacher too also got calls from the loan agency. Investigations revealed that on April 10, the teacher got continuous calls from the loan agency. Primary investigations indicate that this too could have added to the mental pressure of the student, said the commissioner.
Police said that another complaint received by police against the victim in Nov last year too is being looked into even though prima facie it is not connected to the death.
