Truck runs over group in MP’s Dindori, 5 killed
DINDORI: Five men were killed and one person injured after a speeding truck ran over them on a highway in Madhya Pradesh’s Dindori district in the early hours of Sunday, police said. The incident took place around 1am on the Jabalpur-Amarkantak National Highway near Kikratalaab village under Gadasarai police station limits. The victims were returning home in a pickup vehicle when a tyre got punctured, prompting the driver to stop and change it. The occupants had stepped out of the vehicle at the time.
“A speeding truck ran over them. The driver told us he dozed off and could not see the victims,” Dindori superintendent of police Vahni Singh said. The truck driver claimed the victims were standing in the middle of the road, she said. Five men, including the pickup vehicle’s driver, died on the spot, while one person sustained injuries and was admitted to hospital, the official said. Police have arrested the truck driver.
