Kozhikode: Jamaat-e-Islami (JeI) has sent a
legal notice to BJP's Palakkad candidate Sobha Surendran over her remarks alleging the organization's involvement in the Srinivasan murder case and labeling it as an extremist group.
The notice said Sobha made false accusations against JeI in an attempt to divert attention from the controversy over allegations against her for paying money for votes and to spread Islamophobia for electoral gains.
Sobha made these allegations against JeI during a news conference held after emergence of a footage linked to alleged money distribution to voters during Palakkad election campaign.
The notice sent by JeI state secretary Shihab Pookkottur demanded that she retract the remarks, issue an apology and pay compensation of Rs 1 crore.
Earlier,
election commission recorded Sobha's statement in connection with the money-for-vote row. Other parties had alleged that Sobha's camp had distributed money to influence voters in Kannadi panchayat in Palakkad on April 8.
