Teen dies after bursting firecracker inside steel container during Vishu in Koyilandy

Kozhikode: A 17-year-old boy died after being critically injured while bursting a firecracker inside a steel container in Koyilandy during Vishu celebrations on Wednesday afternoon. The deceased, Adwaith, is the son of Aneesh Kumar of Korangad. According to Koyilandy police, Adwaith and his friends were bursting crackers at a ground near the Korayangad temple around 3.45pm. During this, he ignited a firecracker that had been placed inside a steel container. The explosion caused metal shrapnel to pierce his body between the left shoulder and chest. Adwaith was immediately rushed to Koyilandy taluk hospital but was declared dead on arrival. A resident said the youth had attempted the act after watching a video on YouTube. Another 17-year-old, a relative of Adwaith, sustained minor injuries in the incident and has since been discharged from the hospital. The firecrackers were reportedly purchased from a nearby shop. The postmortem was conducted at Kozhikode govt medical college hospital. A case has been registered and further investigation is on.
