Three MBBS students killed in scooter accident in Kozhikode
Kozhikode: Three MBBS students from Malabar Medical College Hospital and Research Centre, Mudakkalloor, were killed in a scooter accident at Kuruvangad in Kozhikode early on Wednesday. According to reports, the electric scooter they were travelling on crashed into an electric post around 1.40am.The deceased were Abhinav Suresh, 19, of Alanellur in Palakkad, Nandakishore, 22, from Karunagappally and Abiyan Rahman, 19, of Kayamkulam. According to police, the trio was travelling towards Koyilandy when the rider lost control of the vehicle and crashed into the electric post. In the impact, the trio was thrown into a roadside drain. Passersby who spotted the injured students soon alerted the locals and rushed them to a nearby taluk hospital. However, all three succumbed to injuries while undergoing treatment there. Police have launched an investigation into the incident. They are examining CCTV footage collected from nearby places to ascertain the exact cause of the accident. While some locals suggested that another vehicle may have rear-ended the scooter, police said there was no evidence so far to support that claim.
The bodies of the three students were shifted to Kozhikode medical college hospital for postmortem examinations. Police have registered a case under Sections 281 (rash or negligent driving) and 106(1) (causing death by negligence) of Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita.
