Lucknow: Two passengers were killed and nine others injured after an UPSRTC bus rammed into a parked trailer truck on the Lucknow-Gorakhpur highway in
Ayodhya on Wednesday.
Police said the bus from Rapti Nagar Depot was travelling from Lucknow to Gorakhpur when the accident occurred near Zuberganj market on the highway.
Preliminary findings suggest the bus was speeding at the time of accident. Several passengers fell off the seats after the crash and suffered injuries.
Police and locals rescued the injured passengers, many of whom got trapped in the mangled bus, and shifted them to nearby hospitals.
Chief minister
Yogi Adityanath expressed grief over the loss of lives. CM told officials to ensure proper medical treatment for the injured and contact the families of the deceased and extend all possible assistance.
Police said two passengers died on the spot. They were identified as Sabir, 54, of Kushinagar and
Suresh Kumar, 43, of Lucknow.
Among the injured passengers, eight were discharged after receiving first-aid, while one critically injured passenger remains hospitalised.
Police have sent the bodies of the deceased for post-mortem examination and launched a search for the trailer driver.
SHO Lalchand Saroj said no formal complaint had been received and added that further legal action would be taken after receiving a complaint.
