lucknow: even the big movements start with a single step. the heat generated by the godhra incident and the mayhem that followed in gujarat has brought a handful of samaritans together in the state capital. after collecting clothes and cash at various camps set up in the city for the riot-hit, members of the bhartiya awam society up (basup) are all set to send a truck load of relief material to gujarat.
the fifth two-day relief collection camp was inaugurated at the qasai bada locality by samajwadi party (sp) leader halim. it will remain open for donors till tuesday. giving details of the drive, public relations officer of the basup vimla gupta said that the first camp was organised at e block of rajajipuram and the second at akbari gate on march 26. similar camps were also held at maulana jauhar ali hall at jagat cinema in aminabad and city station. she said that they would hold two more camps near janpath market in hazratganj and at hussainabad area of the old city. vimla said that the local residents had reacted positively to the basup's call for ek ghanta rashtra ko ... ek muthi samaj ko. she added that they had collected rs 20,000 in cash and many clothes so far. however, the society members target to collect rs 50,000 before leaving for gujarat, she added. addressing a gathering at qasai barda collection camp, district president of basup waheedul hasan said that people from all walks had generously contributed to the welfare of the riot-hit. the society had held similar camps to provide relief items to the gujarat earthquake avictims.
