Bijnor: The carcass of a five-year-old leopard was found along the Sherkot-Nandgaon road in Bijnor district on Friday evening, forest officials said Saturday.
Passers-by spotted the carcass lying near the roadside and alerted the forest department. Deputy ranger Hardev Singh and forest guard Vipin Kumar reached the spot and initiated preliminary inquiries. The carcass was sent for post-mortem examination.
Observations suggest the leopard may have fallen while climbing a eucalyptus tree, possibly while attempting to catch a monkey, and could have come into contact with a power line in the area. Authorities said all aspects are being thoroughly examined.
Forest department officials said an investigation is ongoing and a comprehensive report will be released once autopsy results are finalised. They reiterated their commitment to implementing preventive measures to avoid similar incidents.
News of the discovery spread quickly, drawing villagers to the site. Authorities have urged residents to remain cautious while venturing near forested areas and assured that steps will be taken to enhance safety for both residents and wildlife.
