CSTPS output falls by 1,320MW as 2 units shut down over tube leakage

Chandrapur: The Chandrapur Super Thermal Power Station (CSTPS), one of Maharashtra's key power producers, is currently generating only 1,600MW against its total installed capacity of 2,920MW after two major 500MW units were forced offline due to tube leakage faults, sharply reducing output by 1,320MW. The CSTPS operates seven generation units, including two units of 210MW each and five units of 500MW each. The shutdown of two critical units in CSTPS has increased pressure on generation with the ongoing summer season and peak power demand.Meanwhile, a 210MW unit at Nagpur's Koradi Thermal Power Station, which was shut on Friday, was restarted on Saturday morning.CSTPS sources said urgent repair work is underway on a war footing to restore the affected units. Unit 6 is expected to be synchronised and resume power generation by Sunday, offering partial relief to the grid. Unit 5 is likely to remain non-operational for a few more days as extensive repair work continues. The temporary outage of these critical units has placed additional pressure on power generation at a time of rising electricity demand.The Koradi power plant currently has three 660 MW units and also a 210 MW unit, which are currently active.
