Woman, daughter found hanging in apartment
Nagpur: A 52-year-old vocational teacher and her 29-year-old daughter were found hanging in their apartment in Venkatesh Nagar on May 1 morning. The deceased were identified as Sangeeta Dhabale and her daughter Akanksha Brahme. Akanksha had lost her newborn baby two months ago and was reportedly in a depressed state.Police recovered two suicide notes from the spot in which both women stated that they were ending their lives of their own free will and no one was responsible for their deaths.Sources stated the friends and family members of the deceased had been demanding action against Akanksha's husband, Lokesh Brahme, 30, for abetment. The neighbours told police that Akanksha had been staying with her mother for two months after delivery. According to the police, the incident came to light around 7am when Lokesh arrived at the residence to check on his wife and mother-in-law, who had remained unresponsive for the whole night. He knocked on the door but received no response. Lokesh is an engineer. Peering through the window, Lokesh saw both women hanging inside.Lokesh alerted neighbours and relatives, who broke open the door and brought down the bodies before calling the police.
Sources stated Lokesh was manhandled too by kin of Akanksha.Sub-inspector Govind Dalvi of Nandanvan police station reached the spot along with other officers. "The door was locked from inside. Two handwritten notes were recovered. In the first note, Akanksha wrote that she and her mother Sangeeta were hanging themselves of their own free will. She mentioned her husband Lokesh and father-in-law and requested that her last journey begin from Venkatesh Nagar and her ashes be immersed in Ramtek," an officer said.The second note by Sangeeta also declared that she was taking the extreme step voluntarily and held no one responsible.Senior police inspector and control room officials were immediately informed. On their instructions, the bodies were sent to GMCH for post-mortem.Police have registered the case as a case of unnatural death and are investigating the exact reasons behind the suicides. Preliminary enquiries suggest possible family or health-related issues, though the suicide notes clearly state that no external pressure was involved. Further investigation is underway to understand the sequence of events leading to the tragedy.
