NMMT driver on phone on duty, is suspended

Navi Mumbai: A bus driver of Navi Mumbai Municipal Transport (NMMT) has been suspended for taking on his cellphone while driving from Ulwe to Nerul.
The incident came to light after a passenger recorded the video and posted it on social media.
Thereafter, the NMMT general manager took disciplinary action against the bus driver for endangering life of passengers onboard.
Yogesh Kaduskar, NMMT general manager said the bus driver, Mahadu Jatar, who is a permanent employee with NMMT, has been suspended as it can be seen in the viral video that he is using cellphone while driving.
“Jatar’s act was risky as he was plying along the highway and was leaving the steering hands-free. A departmental enquiry has also been initiated against Jatar,” Kaduskar added. — George Mendonca
