Youth accused of killing trans woman over ‘affair’ arrested

Noida: A 26-year-old man accused of murdering a trans woman in Greater Noida’s Tugalpur village was arrested following an encounter near the Sector 148 Metro line on Tuesday, police said.The accused, Abhishek alias Mona alias Manav, allegedly killed his partner, Chandni alias Manoranjan Sharma, while they were allegedly drinking alcohol, by smashing her head against a wall, suspecting she was having an illicit relationship with someone.On May 24, police discovered Chandni’s body under suspicious circumstances in her rented house in Tugalpur village, where the duo lived together for several years. The body had several injury marks, including injuries to the head, raising suspicions of murder.Following the incident, a case was registered under Section 103(1) of the BNS at the Knowledge Park police station, and multiple teams were formed to identify and arrest the accused.Acting on a tip-off, a police team intercepted Abhishek near the road leading to the Sector-148 Metro line on Tuesday. As cops signalled him to stop, he allegedly opened fire on them, and cops retaliated in self-defence.
Abhishek sustained a bullet injury in the exchange and was later admitted to a hospital for treatment.A country-made pistol, one empty cartridge and one live .315 bore cartridge were seized from his possession. His criminal history is also being verified, cops said.During interrogation, the accused confessed that he and Chandni were drinking together on Sunday night when a heated argument broke out after she allegedly abused him. Enraged, he attacked her, leading to her death. He slept beside the body before fleeing in the morning.Additional deputy commissioner of police Santosh Kumar said evidence collected from the scene played a crucial role in tracing the accused. He added that further legal action is being taken in the matter and that an autopsy report is pending.
