TRICHY: A four-member gang waylaid and robbed a 66-year-old man, injuring him in the eye, at Vannarapettai on Thursday.
According to sources, V Periyasamy of Moovendar Nagar was on his way back home after returning from Chennai in the early hours on Thursday.
When he was coming near the government school at Vannarapettai, three persons identified as P Karthik alias Kattaiyan, 28, of Kajapettai, S Arif Khan, 19, of Kajapettai, R Sampath Raj, 32, of Kajapettai, and a juvenile intercepted Periyasamy.
They attacked him and robbed him of his mobile phone.
Periyasamy sustained injuries in the eyes and was admitted to a private hospital.
Based on a complaint, police arrested three of the accused and is on the lookout for Sampath Raj. Police said that except the juvenile, all the three had several cases pending against them in various police stations in Trichy city. Sampath Raj was a history-sheeter in Golden Rock police station.
In another incident, burglars broke into a grocery
shop on Kajapettai main road in Palakkarai area and took away cash on Wednesday night.
Shop owner Faritha Begum had closed the shop on Wednesday night and gone home.
On Thursday morning, she found the main door lock broken and packets of cigarettes and a sum of 1,000 stolen.
Police are investigating.
