NEW DELHI: In Chakdaha constituency, BJP’s Bankim Chandra Ghosh won against TMC’s Subhankar Singha.Chakdaha is a legislative assembly constituency in West Bengal’s Nadia district. The town, which has its own municipality, lies in the Kalyani subdivision and is one of the seven Assembly segments under the Ranaghat Lok Sabha constituency.In the 2021 Assembly elections, the constituency had 245,514 electors and recorded 212,064 valid votes. Bharatiya Janata Party candidate Bankim Chandra Ghosh won the seat with 99,368 votes, defeating the All India Trinamool Congress’s Subhankar Singha (Jishu), who secured 87,688 votes.

The margin of victory was 11,680 votes.In the 2016 assembly elections, Chakdaha had 223,765 electors and 189,886 valid votes. Trinamool Congress candidate Ratna Kar Ghosh won the seat with 94,241 votes, while CPI(M) candidate Biswanath Gupta finished second with 70,588 votes, losing by a margin of 23,653 votes.The constituency had 251,796 registered voters in 2024, up from 245,514 in 2021 and 234,301 in 2019. Although it is an unreserved seat, Scheduled Castes form the largest voting bloc, accounting for 31.85 per cent of the electorate.
Scheduled Tribes make up 6.47 per cent, while Muslims constitute slightly less than 8.50 per cent of voters.Chakdaha has a mixed urban–rural profile, with 58.03 per cent of voters living in rural areas and 41.97 per cent in urban pockets. Voter turnout has consistently remained high, recording 90.12 per cent in 2011, 84.93 per cent in 2016, 84.70 per cent in 2019, 86.44 per cent in 2021 and 82.99 per cent in 2024.
