In West Bengal's Raghunathganj, All India Trinamool Congress won with a total votes of 88,909 votes. He defeated Bharatiya Janata Party's Surojit Poddar and Indian National Congress' Nasir Saikh who got 35,184 and 48,354 votes.
Raghunathganj in 2026 will see TMC's sitting MLA Akhruzzaman contest against BJP's Surojit Poddar and independent-turned-Congress candidate Nasir Saikh.
Raghunathganj is a general constituency in Murshidabad district, part of the Jangipur Lok Sabha seat. It covers Raghunathganj II community development block and panchayats from Suti I and Lalgola blocks. The area has a roughly even split between rural and urban voters and a predominantly Muslim electorate that has consistently voted for Akhruzzaman across different party affiliations.
In 2016, Akhruzzaman defeated TMC's Abul Kasem Molla. By 2021, he had joined TMC and won again — this time by an extraordinary margin of over 98,000 votes, one of the largest winning margins in West Bengal in that election cycle. His personal vote bank is evidently enormous. In 2026, Akhruzzaman again contests for TMC, now as Janab Akhruzzaman on the candidate list. BJP's Surojit Poddar and Congress's Nasir Saikh face a formidable task against the sitting MLA's entrenched local dominance in one of Murshidabad's safest TMC seats.
