Gazole is a Scheduled Caste-reserved constituency in Malda district, part of the Maldaha Uttar Lok Sabha seat. It covers the entire Gazole community development block, a heavily rural area with over 37 per cent SC population. Historically, the CPI(M) dominated the seat through the Left Front years, with the party winning it multiple times before 2011.
In 2016, CPI(M)'s Dipali Biswas, backed by the Congress-Left alliance, defeated TMC's Sushil Chandra Roy by over 20,000 votes. The 2021 election was dramatically different: BJP's Chinmoy Deb Barman wrested the seat from TMC's Basanti Barman by the slimmest of margins — just 1,798 votes out of over 221,000 cast. It remains one of the closest results in Malda in recent memory. BJP will be defending this knife-edge seat with the same candidate in 2026, while TMC has fielded Prasenjit Das in an attempt to recapture the constituency.
