In West Bengal's Nagrakata (ST) seat, BJP candidate Puna Bhengra defeated TMC candidate Sanjay Kujur by 25,858 votes. Bhengra got 1,03,478 votes while Kujur got 77,620 votes.
Nagrakata (ST) is a Scheduled Tribe-reserved constituency in Jalpaiguri district of West Bengal, situated in the Dooars region near the foothills of the Himalayas. In 2026, the candidates include Sanjay Kujur of the Trinamool Congress (TMC), Puna Bhengra of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), and Shinu Munda of the Congress.
In the 2021 West Bengal Assembly elections, Nagrakata (ST) was won by Puna Bhengra of the BJP, who defeated his nearest rival from the TMC by a margin of approximately 14,000 votes. The result highlighted the BJP's strengthened position among tribal voters in the Dooars region while demonstrating the constituency's competitive political landscape.
The constituency is largely rural and home to a significant tribal population. The local economy depends on tea gardens, agriculture, forest-based livelihoods, and small-scale trade. Tea garden workers and farmers frequently raise concerns related to wages, job security, irrigation, crop pricing, and protection from floods. Tribal communities also emphasise the need for effective implementation of government schemes, land and forest rights, and improved living conditions.
The constituency went to polls on April 23, as part of Phase 1. Jalpaiguri district recorded a voter turnout of 94.76%.
