Poompuhar Assembly Results 2026: DMK’s Nivedha M. Murugan wins

Nivedha M Murugan of Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) won the Poompuhar constituency with a margin of 8260 votes. He garnered 81096 votes, while All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam candidate Pavunraj. S came second with 72836 votes.The ruling DMK had nominated Nivedha M. Murugan from Poompuhar for the Tamil Nadu Assembly Elections 2026, where he faced AIADMK’s Pavunraj. S and TVK’s K. Vijayalayan in a multi-cornered contest.Poompuhar Assembly constituency is located in Mayiladuthurai district. It is a coastal constituency with a significant agrarian and fishing population.In the 2021 Assembly elections, DMK’s Nivedha M. Murugan won the seat with 96,102 votes, defeating AIADMK’s S. Pavunraj, who secured 92,803 votes. The margin of victory was 3,299 votes.In the 2016 Assembly elections, AIADMK’s S. Pavunraj won the seat with 87,666 votes, defeating DMK’s A. M. Shahjahan, who received 67,731 votes. The margin of victory was 19,935 votes.In the 2011 Assembly elections, AIADMK’s S. Pavunraj won the seat with 85,249 votes, defeating PMK’s K. Agoram, who secured 73,876 votes. The margin of victory was 11,373 votes.
