The constituency is predominantly rural, with agriculture, small-scale trade, and tea garden-linked livelihoods forming the backbone of the local economy. Its proximity to Siliguri and position along important transit routes give it both economic and political relevance in north Bengal. Key issues centre on rural development and economic stability, with agricultural concerns including irrigation, crop pricing, and flood protection taking priority, alongside infrastructure gaps such as rural roads, drainage systems, drinking water supply, and electricity reliability. The constituency went to polls on April 23, as part of Phase 1. Jalpaiguri district recorded a voter turnout of 94.76%.
