In West Bengal's Ratua consistuency, All India Trinamool Congress' Samar Mukherjee defeated Bharatiya Janata Party's Abhishek Singhania with 32,652 votes. Mukherjee won 1,06,834 votes, as Singhania struggled to secure 74,272 votes only.
The 2026 elections in Ratua will see TMC's sitting MLA Samar Mukherjee face BJP's Abhishek Singhania and Congress's Mottakin Alam.
Ratua is a general constituency in Malda district, part of the Maldaha Uttar Lok Sabha seat. It is an entirely rural constituency covering the Ratua I and II community development blocks along with some adjoining panchayats. The seat has a significant Muslim voter base and has historically been contested between Congress and TMC.
In 2016, Samar Mukherjee won the seat on a Congress ticket, defeating the TMC candidate. In a dramatic political switch, Mukherjee joined TMC and won again in 2021, this time under the TMC banner, defeating BJP's Abhishek Singhania with nearly 60 per cent of the vote. The 2026 contest is therefore a near-repeat of 2021, with the same two main candidates — Mukherjee for TMC and Singhania for BJP — going head to head once more, with Congress's Mottakin Alam also in the mix. TMC's strong hold on the constituency, combined with Mukherjee's personal vote, makes him the frontrunner.
